Two teenagers were mauled by sharks in separate attacks within the same area on a North Carolina beach Sunday.

The attacks occurred on a beach in Oak Island, North Carolina, a town about 30 miles from Wilmington, ABC News reports. The victims were a 13-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy, both suffering extreme injuries.
The girl had her left arm amputated below the elbow when she was bitten by a shark in Oak Island, North Carolina. She also might lose her left leg, Oak Island Mayer Betty Wallace said in a Facebook post.
“Please keep this girl and her family in your prayers,” Wallace wrote.
The boy had an arm amputated below the shoulder, NBC Wilmington affiliate WECT reports.
New Hanover Regional Medical Center hospital officials, according to WECT, confirmed both teenagers are recovering in the hospital and are in fair condition after undergoing surgeries.
This is the third shark bite incident that has been reported in Brunswick county in just days. Another 13-year-old was reportedly injured in a possible shark attack Thursday in Ocean Isle Beach, according to WECT.
